1) The basic license is the LSW, which requires a BSW from an accredited college of social work.

2) The Certified Social Worker (CSW) license requires a Masters in Social Work from an accredited graduate program in social work.

3) The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) requires a Masters degree in Social Work with proof of either 200 hours (two years) of qualifying clinical supervised experience under a board approved LCSW Supervisor or proof of 5 years independent clinical licensure in another state.  Prior licensure as a CSW is not a requirement if you are applying from out of state.

The licensing regulation (KRS:335.130(4) guides the practice of social work in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and requires social workers practicing at the Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) or Certified Social Worker (CSW) levels to acquire thirty (30) hours of continuing education credits for each certified period and Licensed Social Workers (LSW) to acquire fifteen (15) hours. Courses in ethics, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and clinical supervision (for LCSW's who will be providing supervision) must be included periodically for continued licensure in Kentucky.

ASWB

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) is the association of boards that regulate social work. ASWB develops and maintains the social work licensing examination used across the country, and is a central resource for information on the legal regulation of social work. Through the association, social work boards can share information and work together. ASWB is also available to help individual social workers and social work students with questions they may have about licensing and the social work examinations.
